Godzilla vs Fenris

Description

A being of ice and cold, Fenris has taken the Monster King by surprise. Leaping over Godzilla's first barrage with his Atomic Ray, Fenris has landed on the barreled chest of the radioactive dinosaur. Godzilla's spines light up with a thunderstorm of radiation, the glow at the back of his throat a prelude to searing thermonuclear pain.

The Ice Age may be over, but Fenris plans to cover the earth in never-ending glaciers. A throwback from the Mesizoic, Godzilla's heart beats with the heat of a nuclear reactor and may usher in a new Age of Reptiles.

One thing is for sure. The Age of Monsters has begun.

Hail to the King.

I was wrong. I thought Sonic ([link]) was my most labor intensive print. But ooooh no, there went Tokyo. Godzilla vs Fenris has taken me roughly a full month of time (not counting sleep) to start and finish. The Linework was done in Mid July at Sogen, the buildings were finishined in Mid August. Main colors were done early September, and the final touches have taken most of my time this last week. All in all, counting everything, Godzilla vs Fenris took me roughly a full month of my life.

And it looks awesome.

Enjoy everyone!

EDIT: Shading and coloring edits. Minor.

EDIT 2: Been a while, but I forgot the Studios Logo and edited some glow effects.

Alright, one down and one to go. Don't know why I didn't write something on this one way earlier though..... <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h…" width="15" height="15" alt=":hmm:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="137" title="hmm"/> I fav'ed it and guess I meant to write something and just got sidetracked. Sorry bout that. Usually I am much better about that when someone has this quality of work that that posted. And I do man quality cause this really is pretty breathtaking <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/d/d…" width="29" height="21" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="409" title="Dance!"/>

Ok, emoticon's aside this really is pretty fantastic work. Again you excel at that snapshot action scene. The smoke effect at the feet, really help sell that Godzilla is almost in the midst of being toppled from this wolf's pouncing kick. It's hard to comment on your line-work every time because frankly it is pretty well flawless each time. Proportions are correct and you just capture every line in the scales and fur of these characters. Same goes for the shading. The lights and darks on the wolf are just god dang gorgeous to look at. It's such a hard texture to master but I think you did a pretty bang up job. And I love that you took extra special care for Godzilla's maw in the shading. Usually people forget to add highlights inside the jaws when they are doing him in his powering up state.

The buildings are a nice backdrop and really sell the titanic struggle that is happening. Incidentally though there are a few really special things going on in here that I have to commend you on that others are probably looking over. First off the water photoshop effect on the large glass facade on the main building is a nice touch. Mainly because you also remembered to add a little mirroring effect of the wolf's arm in there. Gives that a more depth look to the image. I also admire the black smoke and fire behind Godzilla. It adds more complexity to the image but I think it really helps to break up all that massive mount of blue that is happening. With the blue buildings and wolf and sky....there just would have been way too much abundance of that color in this illustration. So that's a nice sly trick to hide some of that away. Adds to the scene and enhances it.

Not really a whole lot to speak ill of this one. I mean there are parts that feel like they are rushed like the little toy car being tossed. The lines on it are not all that straight and smooth like an actual metal object would be. But it's not the main focus of the image so it is hard to even say that was even badly done. It's such an insignificant speck on the illustration that one would have to actually be looking for it to begin with.

All in all it is pretty fantastic work and probably your best yet. I am not one for "original" kaijus from fans but I like this wolf. But how big can those chains be on him though if he is Godzilla size? eesh o_0

Ok, so one more emoticon to leave this review off with...oh about another evil laugh? <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/m/m…" width="29" height="15" alt=":mwahaha:" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="413" title="Mwahahahahahahaha!"/>
