Hey Everyone, ~DR here after another Convention. So lets get to the recap!
I was at Planet Comic Con and as usual had a great time with my friends from Wichita and the Kansas City area, though it rained the entire weekend. I had lost my big, BIG telescoping art display at Little Apple Comic Expo back in march, which was a bit of a setback, however I did order a couple of Vertical Banners for Marshal Star that look amazing!
Overall the convention wasn't financially impressive (never has been) though this year I went and bought my own table and didn't go with another group. I was joined by Triple Diamond Cosplay (www.facebook.com/Triplediamond…) as they helped me run my booth on Saturday and Sunday., Even kicked me out so I could get up and walk around, see some of the other artists. I also spent some money on several original art prints from fellow artists, (and one sexy Morgan). This is why I love cons, I get to network and see what people are working on.
Marshal Star's debut wasn't as big, but considering the current environment involving new material against established material, it's an uphill battle. I'm still working on Marshal Star, as Chapter 2 and three are in the works and Chapter 4 is being written.
I've also decided to give the Studios Patreon another shot (link above, yeah where it says PATREON). I'm offering some new cool things for Supporters. Heck if you support my work and don't get a chance to go to any of the conventions I'm planning in the near future, then please do check out the Patreon for current rewards and of course the sexy Dragons and Maidens series I'm working on as part of my own original series of art and prints. Not to mention other art series I'm working on between Marshal Star updates.
I also broke down and used some of my profit from PCC to purchase a new drawing Tablet. This one is a Ugee Pen Display Tablet and it should be here Friday! Here is the product page: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D… This has been a piece of equipment I've been meaning to get for years, however Cinteq has appeared to corner the market on such equipment, with their prices being anywhere from 1500 to 2100 dollars! However, on some recommendation from some artists I met at PCC this year, I've decided to invest in this wonderful piece of equipment. Ugee actually has some amazingly affordable tablets and pen display tablets. I might have to modify my display a bit, or finally switch out my first flat-screen monitor for this new tablet. I'll know more come Friday when I get a chance to mess around with it.
Considering that this will help with my hand-eye disconnect when I draw with my current Wacom Intuos Pro 3. It's not terrible, but my pen stabilzation isn't enough for when I'm drawing with it. Just a minor thing I've been fighting for years. Oh but I am soooo excited. I'll be doing some more stuff with it, on it, all over with it, and of course with the Patreon back on, I'm excited to get to work.
The important thing to remember, for anyone who's getting a tablet or thinking of a pen-display tablet, is that it doesn't matter how good the tools are, if you don't have a good understanding of the fundamentals, you'll still have problems. The best analogy is this: If you're a carpenter, it doesn't matter if you have the best tools money can buy, if your blueprints are bad, your building is going to be bad.
So yeah, so very excited right now!
So to recap: Convention Season is upon us, Marshal Star is published and for sale, DR-Studios Patreon is up, and I bought a new Pen Display Tablet.
That's it for me gang, night!
Later!
~DR
