Hey everyone, just a headsup that I'm opening up to Commissions due to some lack of funds that need to get curtailed back.  So, check out the latest picture, and let me know if you're interested!

Hey Everyone, ~DR here after another Convention. So lets get to the recap!

I was at Planet Comic Con and as usual had a great time with my friends from Wichita and the Kansas City area, though it rained the entire weekend. I had lost my big, BIG telescoping art display at Little Apple Comic Expo back in march, which was a bit of a setback, however I did order a couple of Vertical Banners for Marshal Star that look amazing!

Overall the convention wasn't financially impressive (never has been) though this year I went and bought my own table and didn't go with another group. I was joined by Triple Diamond Cosplay (www.facebook.com/Triplediamond…) as they helped me run my booth on Saturday and Sunday., Even kicked me out so I could get up and walk around, see some of the other artists. I also spent some money on several original art prints from fellow artists, (and one sexy Morgan). This is why I love cons, I get to network and see what people are working on.

Marshal Star's debut wasn't as big, but considering the current environment involving new material against established material, it's an uphill battle. I'm still working on Marshal Star, as Chapter 2 and three are in the works and Chapter 4 is being written.

I've also decided to give the Studios Patreon another shot (link above, yeah where it says PATREON). I'm offering some new cool things for Supporters. Heck if you support my work and don't get a chance to go to any of the conventions I'm planning in the near future, then please do check out the Patreon for current rewards and of course the sexy Dragons and Maidens series I'm working on as part of my own original series of art and prints. Not to mention other art series I'm working on between Marshal Star updates.

I also broke down and used some of my profit from PCC to purchase a new drawing Tablet. This one is a Ugee Pen Display Tablet and it should be here Friday! Here is the product page: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D… This has been a piece of equipment I've been meaning to get for years, however Cinteq has appeared to corner the market on such equipment, with their prices being anywhere from 1500 to 2100 dollars! However, on some recommendation from some artists I met at PCC this year, I've decided to invest in this wonderful piece of equipment. Ugee actually has some amazingly affordable tablets and pen display tablets. I might have to modify my display a bit, or finally switch out my first flat-screen monitor for this new tablet. I'll know more come Friday when I get a chance to mess around with it.

Considering that this will help with my hand-eye disconnect when I draw with my current Wacom Intuos Pro 3. It's not terrible, but my pen stabilzation isn't enough for when I'm drawing with it. Just a minor thing I've been fighting for years. Oh but I am soooo excited. I'll be doing some more stuff with it, on it, all over with it, and of course with the Patreon back on, I'm excited to get to work.

The important thing to remember, for anyone who's getting a tablet or thinking of a pen-display tablet, is that it doesn't matter how good the tools are, if you don't have a good understanding of the fundamentals, you'll still have problems. The best analogy is this: If you're a carpenter, it doesn't matter if you have the best tools money can buy, if your blueprints are bad, your building is going to be bad.

So yeah, so very excited right now!

So to recap: Convention Season is upon us, Marshal Star is published and for sale, DR-Studios Patreon is up, and I bought a new Pen Display Tablet.

That's it for me gang, night!

Later!

~DR

Hey Guys!

You know what they say?  Don't draw angry.  Okay so no one says that, but after the rather stressful weekend I've had with work and some other issues, I'm going to be livestreaming tonight at about 6 PM  Central Time.  What will I be drawing, why the latest Update for Marshal Star of course!  Tuesdays Update is nearly done line wise and then afterwards I'm going to be fixing some shading and edits on a previous page.  Heck we are soo close to Chapter 1's Physical release I can smell that sweet sweet ink.  So check out www.youtube.com/channel/UCZvA_… tonight, or search for Drako R on YouTube, and I'll be drawing all up in there.  Join and hang out to ask questions or pester me as I try to draw some cool action.

So if you didn't know, Marshal Star is a Sci-fi, Fantasy, Western, Space Opera that is my own project, I've been working on it with a friend and associate who is officially my Co-Creator at this point, one mr Declan Burke, and we have a Patreon where I post updates before their update as well as some other cool stuff like sketch progress, my process, some script reveals, and work on upcoming prints.  So check out Marshal Star (marshalstar.thecomicseries.com) and the Patreon (www.patreon.com/MarshalStar).

Okay that's out of the way here's some other information.  I'm trying for some more Conventions this year, and dropping a few, saddly.  On my docket for the month of March are Little Apple Comic Expo and then Lebanon Mega Con.  After that I have Planet Comic Con in Late April, followed by Smallville Comic Con in June.  July's a bit in the air right now, depending on G-Fest and Anime Fest Wichita.  And another important thing I'm doing is that starting this year I am cutting mack on a lot of my fan art production and focusing more on Marshal Star.

On that note heres some information for you all.  As much as I like drawing fan art of the stuf I enjoy, I'm feeling that most of the industry, specifically Convention industry, is very heavily focused to fan art of very popular items.  I wont' deny I've capitalized on this myself with my Sonic the Hedgehog and Godzilla work, but I'm also a fan of those franchises and have been drawing them since forever.  More importantly, I've avoided doing stuff for widely popular items such a Five Nights at Freddies, Undertail, and Kingdom Hearts.  Though KH has Disney backing their copyright on them (and Disney is rediculous), that doesn't stop it from behing capitalized.  I mean I could do an Undertale or FNAF picture and get a lot of sales out of it.  But I don't think that's really fair to my talent and what I can do with  my skills.  I'm more interested in showing my original work, Specifically Marshal Star, or any original work I might do with Chrystar, or with the Atheos Monsters in my work with Winter&Gaia.

Long story short, DR Studios at conventions, starting 2017, is going to be focusing on my own work and original content and ideas.  This won't stop me from doing art and things that I enjoy when I get an itch for them, but most of my pressure and drive is going towards these original projects.  So #showmeyourOW

Later for now!

Hey guys, it's me again.

Well the Marshal Star site got it's new Facelift!  Pending some minor bugs and some link fixing, the site is good to go!  I owe a big thanks to Blake for his help in this, and the frustration he was going through getting stuff sorted.  But it all looks freaking amazing you cannot believe how happy I am right now.

So check it out!  Updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays!  marshalstar.thecomicseries.com…

Hey everyone, DR here.

So everything going forward got some great news!  Well somewhat news but still cool.  I started a webcomic after being out of comic arts for about.. what?  8 years?  nearly 10?  (I blame Grad School and mild depression).  Anyways I have a new one out, and it should be pretty cool for you all.

Please check out the Patreon, and the Comic and give some support.  We're updating twice a week unless I can devote more time and MAYBE increase the update schedule then.  But for now. it's Tuesday-Thursday updates.

The Patreon link above goes to Marshal Star's Patreon, and the comic link is here:  marshalstar.thecomicseries.com…

The Marshal Star Twitter is here, so go ahead and follow us there too!:  twitter.com/Marshal_Star

So yeah, Marshal Star, it's been a fun ride in getting back into doing sequentials, so stop by and give us a look and some support for more Sci-Fantasy crazyness.
